The article entitled 'Improving Patient Care' introduces the online tool called 'Isabel' which is available for health professionals to use to check diagnoses. Have you ever used 'Isabel' or other online tools to assist you in your work in health care or public health?

This is the first time I heard this tool and no experience to use the other online tools to assist in work in health care before.In my personal view, Isabel,the online symptom checker,has the potential to assist medication experts providers in delivering higher quality of try and help the general public understand what their symptoms may indicate.Moreover,when clinicians can quick and accurate diagnosis to reduce diagnostic errors ,and decrease all patients and caregivers who suffer by missed or delayed diagnosis.In the other hand There’s still only so much a machine can tell you. It can only provide information and recommendations based on the information that have been programmed into it.In fact, you should still see a doctor to get the best possible diagnosis and treatment by doctor.I really concern about this tool can be very useful if they’re used correctly. On the other hand, they could make misunderstandings if they are used incorrectly.

The article in your course folder outlines that "Isabel' was indeed designed to assist doctors in diagnosing their patients. It that context it can complement the prior knowledge of the health professional.

For 'Isabel' which technology to help health worker team especially physician to decide the symptoms .I am interested in 'Isabel' because I heard in the first time in New Zealand. However, in my work in Thailand I usually use the database from Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders , Fifth Edition (DSM V)for diagnoses and plan to caring my patients. American Psychiatric Association who provide clinicians with relevant knowledge in their workflow to help them improve the quality of care. Normally, we can access the database from website: http://dsm.psychiatryonline.org or from DSM V books. Nevertheless, if we have problems such as difficulty diagnose and patients’ symptoms got worse , we must set conference with my team, called “root cause analysis”; (RCA) for solving circumstances and a make good result to our patients.
ReplyDeleteIn my view the technology is the one factor enable my work more effective than the past. For example, I use teleconference with my team when I have nursing problems. Moreover the technology can manage excellent health policy systems when we usually collect anything detail from disease such as prevalence , cause, time, place and effect from disease that best databases for plan to improve health care systems .
Finally, the technology entails both advantages and disadvantages. Be careful, since controlled usage is the best solution to avoid having to deal with the harmful effects and confidently make the real helping people from the technology .
Nice to read how databases and telecommunication technologies such as teleconferencing are helping you do your job better.

teleconferencing is the technology that allows me to hold meetings with several correspondents who are located in different places while seeing them and talking to them in real time. It is different from simple video calling, which is normally one-to-one video communication.
DeleteNowadays, teleconferencing in health care service, it is very important because Thailand has a lot of patients who suffer from many diseases more than doctors and nurses. Moreover some primary hospital does not have resident doctors .Therefore, teleconferencing can help me to consult doctor when we have problems such as patients ‘diagnosis or emergency treatment. Teleconferencing is useful for us. However, another technology such as television or internet ,if spend time too much can cause personality disorder because immature people was received by bed model in television such as using drug abuse or having eating behavior problems such as anorexia. Unfortunately, playing internet not only physical problems such as eyes and muscle pain and obesity but also mental problems among such violence behavior, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and stress in family.
It is interesting how debilitating addiction can be, isn't it. You can think of alcoholism, eating disorders, problem gambling and so on. When you bring technology into the picture you can add gaming, porn and SNS addictions. This reality reminds me that the technology itself is neutral. The problem is we bring our frailties to it and it can magnify them.
DeleteIn my opinion, the online tools are beneficial for improving patient care if they are available for health professionals to use. Nowadays many big hospitals in Thailand try to provide technology and modern devices to assist health care workers. For example, there is PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) in my hospital, which is a valuable tool for enabling physicians to quickly and easily share patient’s radiology histories reports. PACS facilitates quick and easy access to patient’s radiology images and reports anywhere and results can be shared electronically with other devices. PACS help to improve work flow process in the hospital and save diagnosis time, especially for neurological cases and emergency patients. However, the diagnosis of less experienced physicians need to be confirmed by experienced physicians.

I never heard about this program as well as never used the program likes this for my work. However, in my job area has the computer program, called ‘Program EH!’ (sound like an interjection in Thai), which is the error data checker system.
ReplyDeleteThe governmental health system in Thailand consist of service provider (Hospital and Health Promoting hospital) and purchaser (National Health Security Office: NHSO), is responsible for setting scope of health service, setting cost rate of health service and purchasing budget. One of purchasing conditions is the provider have to correctly and completely collect the health information and send them to the NHSO. If the information is incorrect and incomplete, the providers will receive income as not much as they have serviced. This issue results in the financial statement of hospitals. So that, the program EH! was developed to help health worker accurately check the health information to reduce missing data.
The program works by checking the data which do not relate to actual situation for example, there is health service for whom have died, birth records do not associate to the standard, and newborns were given HBV1 vaccine after 60 days old and so on.
Technologies are becoming more essential part in health system. According to the six building blocks of WHO, technologies and information have significant roles of health income. Most information needs to use computer programs to record, collect, summarize, analyze and deliver. Precise information helps policy and technical health workers appropriately plan and efficiently solve the health problems. Without technologies and results, health system cannot properly achieve the goals, effective, safe, quality personal and non-personal health interventions with minimum waste of resources.
However, the more technology is developed, the more it is expensive. By this, I mean that although technology helps improve in several healthcare areas, it has high cost according to its quality and modernity. My workplace has to pay much budget to buy, update and upgrade the program or software infinitely as a result in financial statement.

The less money wasted or dishonestly pocketed, the more money there is available for actually helping patients. Principled civil servants + superior administrative tools = well managed healthcare.

To be honest, this article is the first time to make me know about “Isabel”, I have never heard about it before. After finished reading, I am searching on the internet to understand more about this program via the web on my laptop and via the application on my cellphone. It lets me know, I have seen this program that was used by some of medical students when I worked at the hospital in Thailand before studying here. However, I got almost knowledge about caring from either reading research or a book by a nurse practitioner more than using health care programs or applications. The internet was used to access for the research database and to search knowledge I want to know time to time only. I have been use an application on my smartphone for knowledge of medicine such as Pharmacist application, MIMs and so on. The applications was significantly beneficial for me to get more medication knowledge that I do not know about it before taking to patients to prevent mistake.
ReplyDeleteIn my views, health care applications on devices or programs online on the web are a dramatic benefit for medical staff. Because they are considerably able to help physicians for diagnosis the disease more accurately and quickly. They are not advantages for physicians only but they also are more upside for medical staff in other careers. Unfortunately, I have no idea about program that was used in the hospital because in the hospital which I took my nursing students to practice nursing care, the health care program was used by medical staff rarely. It rely on who want to use.
Nevertheless, I found many medical students that use more applications on their devices for more quick diagnosis and suitable treatment. As above mentioned, the technology has played a more important role in medical treatments than the past. It enable to get better treatment for patients and make medical staffs work more convenient as well. On the other hand, the influences are able to occur if medical staffs depend too much on technology. When anything could detect by technology that it might has a dramatic effect on patient. For instance, patients may be happened side effect from drugs treatment or symptoms get worse if physicians use only a health care program to diagnose and treat patients without physical examination or take care patients by themselves. The technology is a considerable benefits and should be use carefully.

Secondly, these practices are useful either easier or better than some traditional techniques to obtain their achievement in term of patient’s care because there is unlimited both place and time to engage the application. In addition, lastly, nurses, doctors might keep connecting with each other and make friends through the online route.
However, due to using technology, the negative sides should be concerned because the privacy of both patients and the users might be exposed by not only hackers but also some medical officers who careless about patients’ right.

Line application is the most popular in 4 provinces in my work place. The mode of “Line group” is an outstanding application where nurses and doctors can share and consult cases easily. There is effectively application not only to utilize as medical tools but also to provide health care accessibility for the officers to rapidly inform patients’ data. Transferal case to tertiary hospital is undoubtedly because patients’ information is sent in advance, and the individually medical arrangement is promptly before the patient arrived.
